Writing her own lines beat repeating somebody else’s

Before

First in her family to finish a postgraduate degree, Lakshmi froze in interviews. Generic affirmations off the internet felt false and she could not say them without flinching.

What they logged
  • Affirmations she wrote herself, in her own words
  • A practice log with mood before and mood after
  • Favourites, which surfaced in the daily rotation
The moment it clicked
The mood-before and mood-after fields did the work. Borrowed lines moved her mood barely at all. Ones tied to something she had actually done — “I answered the finance question they said I could not” — moved it every time. She deleted the rest.
What changed
Measure Before After 1 year
Practice days logged 0 286
Average mood shift +1.4 of 5
Outcome froze in 6 interviews offer, Coimbatore firm
How they keep track now

A one-minute practice each morning, and a monthly clear-out of any affirmation that is not shifting the mood number.

“Repeating a stranger’s sentence did nothing. Repeating evidence about myself did.” — Lakshmi Priya Devanathan, Theni
