From a shouting-match shop floor to a day that runs itself

Before
Karthikeyan ran a 40-machine floor on memory and WhatsApp. Dyeing schedules, buyer samples, machine servicing, his daughter’s school fee date — all of it lived in his head or in a notebook that stayed in the office. He was reaching home at 9.30pm, and the jobs that slipped were always the ones nobody shouted about.
What they logged
- One main intention every morning before the floor started
- Time blocks for the two dyeing batches and the buyer call
- Tasks tagged Work / Home / Money so home things stopped vanishing
- Energy level at 1pm and 7pm, on the 1–5 scale
The moment it clicked
After six weeks his energy log showed the same pattern every week: everything logged after 4pm got marked “skipped”. He stopped scheduling anything that needed thinking into the evening and moved the buyer calls to 10am.
What changed
| Measure | Before | After 7 months | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tasks finished vs planned | about 45% | → | 82% |
| Average time leaving the unit | 9.30 pm | → | 7.15 pm |
| Missed personal deadlines / month | 4–5 | → | 0–1 |
How they keep track now
Every Sunday he opens the history view and reads the week’s completion percentage and the mood row underneath it. Two bad weeks in a row is his signal to cut something, not to try harder.
“I was not short of hours. I was spending my best hours on the wrong jobs, and I could not see it until it was written down.” — Karthikeyan Raman, Coimbatore
