Before

Divya had started and abandoned the same four habits every January for three years. She would manage nine or ten days, miss a weekend, feel like a fraud, and quietly stop. She had no record of any of it, so every restart felt like starting from zero.

What they logged
  • Five habits only β€” water, 20 pages, morning walk, no phone after 10, meditate
  • A one-line note on the days she broke the chain, saying why
  • Nothing else. She deliberately refused to add a sixth habit.
The moment it clicked
The break-notes were the unlock. Reading them back she found eleven of her fourteen misses were on days she got home after 9pm. The habit was not the problem β€” the schedule was. She moved the walk to 6.45am and the streak stopped snapping.
What changed
Measure Before After 11 months
Longest streak, morning walk 9 days β†’ 134 days
Habits held above 80% for 3 months 0 β†’ 4 of 5
Restarts from zero 3 per year β†’ none since March
How they keep track now

The week grid is her whole review. Anything with two gaps in a row gets shrunk β€” 20 pages becomes 5 pages β€” rather than dropped.

β€œSeeing 134 in the streak counter is not vanity. It is the reason I put my shoes on at 6.45 when I do not want to.” β€” Divya Sundaram, Chennai
